Seminarium Almedalen: Om rättvis migration inom EU

29 juni, 2015, 10:00 - 11:00

In a Europe with different preconditions and labor market models – how do we ensure mobility on fair terms? How do we ensure equal pay for equal work? How do we avoid that workers are discriminated against or exploited? What can the EU do to ensure fair competition between companies?

Free movement is a cornerstone of the EU. Access to education, jobs and trade is crucial for employment and welfare. But there are also downsides. The ability for companies to establish themselves wherever they wish not only creates new business opportunities, but also enables unfair competition by means of low taxes, lower wages and poorer working conditions. Meanwhile, the European Court of Justice ruled that posted workers not automatically be treated equally with domestic colleagues, putting the principle of equal pay for equal work into question. This autumn Luxemburg will take over take over the presidency of the EU and the European Commission will present its proposal for the future of free movement in a ”Labour Mobility Package”. What should be included in this? How can we avoid that unfair competition and ”social dumping” lead to downward pressure on wages and working conditions? Welcome to a panel debate on how we can create fair mobility in the labor market of the EU.
